Ocala woman jailed after hitting man with windshield wiper

Elizabeth H. Loar

A 28-year-old Ocala woman spent Monday night in the Marion County Jail after she allegedly hit a man with a windshield wiper that she pulled off his truck.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that he and Elizabeth H. Loar were arguing and he decided to leave. He said Loar followed him out to his car and continued to argue. The victim said as he tried to drive away, Loar pulled the rear windshield wiper of the rear tailgate of his SUV, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said he got out of his vehicle to confront Loar about breaking off the wiper when she started hitting him with it, causing a small laceration to his elbow. The deputy observed the cut with fresh blood coming from it, the report said.

An eyewitness from across the street said she was outside in her yard and heard Loar and the victim arguing. She said she saw Loar pull the wiper off the back of the vehicle and hit him in the arm with it. The witness said she came over to help calm the situation, according to the report.

Loar said she and the victim had gotten into an argument and that the victim was trying to leave. She said she was mad at him and wanted him to stay and talk. Loar then admitted that when the victim tried to leave, she pulled the wiper blade off the vehicle and swung it at him, the report said.

Loar was taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was released Tuesday on her own recognizance. She is expected to appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 17.
