Ocala man tased while resisting domestic battery arrest

Ross Cameron Mayer

An Ocala man jailed last year for breaking a window had to be tased while he was resisting arrest on a domestic battery charge.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to a report from a female who said she heard her mother say, “Get your hands off me.” The reporting party also said there is a history of domestic battery between the victim and 37-year-old Ross Cameron Mayer, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim told the deputy that Mayer had pushed her after an argument over a cell phone. While the deputy was trying to obtain more information, Mayer started approaching him and was very verbal, saying the deputy couldn’t be on his property without a warrant. Mayer was interfering with the criminal investigation, the report said.

The deputy could smell the odor of alcohol on Mayer’s breath and ordered him to return to his residence. The deputy and the victim moved to the roadway and stood behind the patrol car to continue their interview, according to the report.

Mayer walked back down his driveway and continued to interfere with the investigation. Due to the victim’s statements, Mayer’s aggressive behavior towards the victim and the totality of the circumstances, the deputy determined he was the primary aggressor in the incident, the report said.

Mayer refused to listen to the deputy’s instructions to turn around and place his hands behind his back to be handcuffed. After Mayer resisted multiple times, the deputy deployed his electrical disabling device and Mayer fell in the grass and was handcuffed, according to the report.

Mayer was charged with simple battery and resisting an officer without violence. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held on $1,500 bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 27.
