Ocklawaha man accused of battering woman, threatening neighbor, resisting arrest

Greg Allan Fillow

A 57-year-old Ocklawaha man is behind bars after he allegedly battered a woman and held her against her will, threatened to shoot a neighbor in the head, and wound up being tased while resisting arrest.

Greg Allan Fillow is being held in the Marion County Jail on $14,000 bond on charges of resisting an officer without violence, simple domestic battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, intimidating or threatening a victim or witness, and false imprisonment of an adult.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to Fillow’s residence at around noon Monday and stopped outside a large, closed gate. The deputy saw Fillow come out of the home, followed by the victim. Fillow immediately started yelling for the deputy to get off the property, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Fillow walked towards the deputy carrying a large wooden stake. The deputy told Fillow to put it down, but Fillow said he is blind and needed it for walking and continued to carry it at his side. Fillow stopped at the gate and still refused to put the stake down. He was belligerent, cursing at the deputy and refusing to cooperate, the report said.

The deputy observed blood on the victim’s face and a white towel she was carrying. Fillow turned around and started walking towards the residence. The deputy gave multiple commands for him to stop, put the stake down and place his hands behind his back. Fillow refused all commands and said he would not allow the deputy to handcuff him, according to the report.

Fillow continued to walk back towards the residence, and the deputy warned him if he continued, he would be tased. Fillow threw the state on the ground and started arguing with the deputy. He seemed to calm momentarily and went down to his knees until two other deputies arrived, the report said.

Fillow was told again he was being detained and needed to place his hands behind his back. He jumped up to his feet and hopped several times, as if preparing himself to fight. He backed away from the deputies and said, “Not (expletive deleted) happening,” according to the report.

As deputies approached Fillow and tried to place him in handcuffs, he spun around, brought up his arms and tried to physically push them away. A deputy deployed his taser and struck Fillow in the back. He became compliant at that point and was detained, the report said.

The victim told the deputy she and Fillow had been arguing all morning. She said she had started packing a suitcase to leave when Fillow grabbed it and yanked it backward, causing her to fall. The victim said Fillow then stood over her, held her against her will and told her she wasn’t going to leave, according to the report.

The victim said she went outside, where Fillow followed her and continued arguing. She said she told Fillow she was going to call law enforcement if he didn’t stop. The victim said Fillow picked up a small, hard plastic container, striking her in the forehead and causing a small gash. She said she went inside and called law enforcement, and Fillow came inside and took the phone away and hung it up, the report said.

During the incident, Fillow went outside and confronted his neighbor, who lives on the same property. The neighbor said he heard Fillow yelling at him to come outside so he could shoot him in the head. He said he didn’t go outside out of fear of being shot, according to the report.

The neighbor said he then heard a gunshot. He said right before he heard the gunshot, he saw Fillow waving a .357 snubnose revolver, the report said.

Fillow is scheduled to appear in Marion County Jail on Oct. 27.
