Third time a charm for Ocala man charged with battering woman

Keith Alan Mort Jr.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to an Ocala home three times in a shift before arresting a 52-year-old man for allegedly beating up a woman in the early morning hours Sunday.

The deputy arrived at the residence on SW 148th Street for the third time at around 3 a.m. and tried to speak with the victim, who was in the front room. She was unable to come to the front door as Keith Alan Mort Jr. was on the other side of a locked door, pounding on it and yelling at her, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy knocked on the front door and spoke with Mort, who said he and the victim were just having an argument. There was a red mark with blood on Mort’s face and some blood on his right foot. Mork initially said he didn’t know how the blood got there and then said the victim struck him, the report said.

The victim said she and Mort were arguing again and he started to push her. She said Mort pushed her into the bedroom and onto a bed, where he held er down by her wrists. The victim also said Mort threw her onto the dog bed in the bedroom. She said she did strike Mort in the chest and face to get him off her while he was trying to hold her down on the bed, according to the report.

Mort was clearly intoxicated and the deputy could smell the odor alcohol on his breath. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was being held Tuesday on $5,000 bond. Mort will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 27.
