Ocala Electric Utility customers have option to substitute electric with solar power

Ocala Electric Utility is giving customers the option to substitute part or all of their electric utility usage with solar power.

OEU is currently accepting applications for the initiative, which broke ground last November and is part of the Florida Municipal Solar Project (FMSP). The project is a large-scale community solar energy initiative that enables multiple cities to substitute traditional electric with solar power.

OEU customers will have the ability to designate 25, 50, or 100 percent of their monthly utility bill to be designated as solar energy.

The local utilities that will purchase power from the project include Alachua, Bartow, Homestead, Lake Worth Beach, Ocala, Orlando Utilities Commission, Wauchula and Winter Park, among others.

For those interested in applying, download or print the OEU Community Solar Application to reserve a spot to receive locally generated Florida solar energy.
