Ocala man accused of punching woman over her trip to Tampa

Giovanni Rodriguez

A 28-year-old Ocala man was arrested recently after he allegedly punched a woman in the face when she wouldn’t tell him why she went to Tampa.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy her argument with Giovanni Rodriguez started when she went to Tampa and he wanted to know why. She said she and Rodriguez were sitting together on the couch when he punched her on the left cheek with a closed fist, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Interviewed outside the home, Rodriguez admitted he hit the victim only once. After being read his Miranda warning, he refused to say anything further, the report said.

Rodriguez was charged with domestic battery and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released on $500 bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on Oct. 26.
