College of Central Florida to present online production of popular play

The College of Central Florida’s Theatre Department is preparing to present “Intimate Apparel.”

The play, by Lynn Nottage, will take place online Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 15-18, starting at 7:30 p.m. It will be directed by Dr. Kathleen Downs, Central Florida associate professor of Theatre, and presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc. in New York.

Set in 1905, the play is a deeply moving portrait of Esther, an African American seamstress who creates exquisite lingerie for women of the boudoir and the brothel, alike. Painfully lonely, Esther falls in love with a handsome Barbadian who woos her through a series of romantic letters, while her friendship with a shy Jewish fabric merchant grows in unexpected ways. Filled with desire, passion and betrayal, “Intimate Apparel” has become one of the country’s most celebrated and beloved plays.

The play is free and tickets can be reserved at the CF virtual Box Office at showtix4u/events/TheatreCF. To learn about other events at CF, visit CF.edu.
