Appleton Museum hosting second annual ‘My Pumpkin and Me’ online photo contest

The Appleton Museum of Art at the College of Central Florida is preparing to host its second annual “My Pumpkin and Me” online photo contest.

Participants are being asked to submit photos of themselves with their carved or painted pumpkins. Photos will be accepted through Oct. 25.

This winning entry from the 2019 pumpkin photo contest was submitted by Nyla Humphries.

“It’s time to celebrate the fall season and there’s no better way to start than decorating for Halloween. Please send us a photo of you (and your helpers, family members or pets) with your original carved or painted pumpkin to AppletonMuseum@cf.edu,” said Assistant Museum Director Victoria Billig.

Upon email receipt of images, photos will be uploaded to the Appleton’s Facebook page in a “My Pumpkin and Me” photo album. One winning photograph will be determined by the most Facebook likes and one will be selected by a community juror. The two winning photographers will receive memberships to the Appleton and Fall/Halloween mystery bundles with merchandise from the Appleton Store.

To enter, email photograph(s) to AppletonMuseum@cf.edu with the first and last name of the person who decorated the pumpkin. Photographs are required to include, in some way, the person who decorated the pumpkin. The deadline to submit is Sunday, Oct. 25. Winning photos will be announced on Oct. 28 and winners will be contacted directly.

“We had a great community response last year to our inaugural online pumpkin-decorating contest,” said Museum Director Jason Steuber. “Original art in all its forms centers on our lives together, including how we celebrate fall and harvests of crops. I can’t wait to see this season’s online pumpkin patch.”

A portion of the pumpkins donated by Jared Williams Farms in Alabama were delivered to Transitions Life Center.

In addition, the Appleton received a donation of 500 pumpkins from Jared Williams Farms in Alabama. Pumpkins have been delivered to community groups, including Boys & Girls Club of Marion County, PACE Center for Girls and Transitions Life Center for participation in the contest. Another batch of pumpkins was donated to Fine Arts for Ocala in sponsorship of its October Family, Crafts and Coffee event for families.

A campus of the College of Central Florida, the Appleton Museum of Art is located at 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd. in Ocala, east of downtown on State Road 40 (exit 352 east off Interstate 75 or exit 268 west off Interstate 95). Parking is free.
