Ocala man arrested after slapping bills out of old lady’s hand

Bart Allen Boyd

A 57-year-old Ocala man was arrested after he admitted to knocking a pile of bills out of a 79-year-old woman’s hand when she tried to talk to him about finances.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she has been having issues the last three years with Bart Allan Boyd drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. She said he was intoxicated when he came out of his bedroom Wednesday afternoon. The relationship between the victim and Boyd was redacted from the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she was holding several bills in her right hand when she approached Boyd to discuss the finances for the household. She said when she started speaking about the bills, Boyd struck her right hand, causing the bills to fly out. The victim showed her hand, which appeared to have redness on the palm, the report said.

The deputy could smell the odor of intoxicating beverages when approaching Boyd on the porch, and he admitted to drinking alcohol. Asked what happened, Boyd said the victim confronted him about the bills. He admitted to becoming upset and slapping the bills out of the victim’s hand, but he said he never touched her, according to the report.

Boyd, who has a previous conviction for simple battery in 2013 in Pinellas County, was charged this time with domestic battery on a person 65 years of age or older. He was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he is being held on $500 bond. Boyd is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 17.
