Ocala man says he ‘flipped out’ but didn’t batter woman after going through her phone

Joseph M. Lindeman

An Ocala man with two prior domestic battery arrests this year was arrested after he allegedly shoved a woman in anger after going through her phone.

Joseph M. Lindeman, 25, of Pine Trace, was charged with simple domestic battery after the incident, which happened shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday at his residence. He was previously arrested on domestic battery charges on March 6 and again on March 28, and he spent more than a month in the Marion County Jail.

The victim’s father called 911 and reported his daughter had been battered. The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy she and Lindeman had been arguing because he had gone through her phone. She said he became irate and started yelling at her, then pushed her into the bed frame and onto the bed, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said she was able to get away from Lindeman. She left the home and called her father. The deputy observed a medium-sized red abrasion on the victim’s left shin, where she was pushed into the bed frame. The victim declined medical treatment, the report said.

Lindeman told the deputy nothing physical had taken place. He admitted he “flipped out” when he went through the victim’s phone and saw she had been deleting items within her social media. Lindeman said he started yelling at the victim and she asked him to leave, according to the report.

Lindeman said he started throwing her belongings out of the home and onto the lawn because it was obvious to him the victim was leaving. He told the deputy to speak to his mother because she was present during the altercation and could confirm nothing physical had happened, the report said.

Lindeman’s mother said she did not physically witness anything. She said she heard Lindeman and the victim arguing earlier in the night. She said she didn’t know where they were arguing or what they were arguing about, according to the report.

Lindeman is being held in the Marion County Jail on $5,000 bond and is due to appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 6, 2021.
