Second set of human remains found on abandoned Florida Highlands property

Marion County sheriffs detectives are conducting a death investigation after a second set of human remains was found on a property in the Florida Highlands area.

Detectives and other personnel from the sheriff’s office responded to the abandoned property on Monday and executed a search warrant after receiving information from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies already had discovered the remains of an adult male buried in the backyard of the residence in February after receiving a tip.

On Tuesday, Major Crimes detectives, the Field Force Unit, the Forensic Unit, and the University of Florida’s C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory excavated the several-acre lot and located another set of human remains, a report states, adding that the deaths don’t appear to be related.

Both investigations are continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Simpson at (352) 368-3586. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers of Marion County at (352) 368‐STOP (7867).
