An Ocala woman whose husband said she is off her mental health medication was arrested recently after she allegedly threw her shoes at a deputy and called him a fascist and a member of the KKK.
Amanda Carol Ketcham, 41, of 4440 SE 62nd St., was charged with battery on an officer.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded to a 911 hangup call at the residence and could hear a man and woman having a loud argument. The deputy could hear the two people saying, “I’m done with your (expletive deleted) and “I’m sick of this,” according to the sheriff’s office report.
When the deputy knocked on the door, the female voice yelled that he was trespassing and needed to leave the property. When the deputy said he wasn’t leaving until he confirmed there wasn’t an emergency, he was called a fascist and a member of the KKK, the report said.
The victim left the residence a few minutes later and spoke with the deputy. He said his wife, Ketcham, has been off her schizophrenia medication for about a month and she is getting increasingly violent Based on his statements, the deputy had sufficient reason to fear for the safety of the victim and that Ketcham might meet criteria for a Baker Act, according to the report.
The deputy tried to speak with Ketcham to further determine if she did meet the criteria for a Baker Act and she was hostile towards the deputy. She repeatedly told the deputy she was going to, “have my badge,” and the deputy was going to, “hang in Langley,” the report said.
While the deputy waited for another unit to help taking Ketcham into custody, Ketcham continued to be hostile and several times stomped her feet in an aggressive manner. At one point, she threw both of her shoes and her shawl at the deputy after she ripped it, according to the report.
Ketcham walked into a back bedroom and the deputy followed her and stayed in the doorway. She again aggressively approached the deputy at the doorway and tried to slam the door in his face. When the deputy tried to stop the door from shutting, a hard plastic “self-back massager” fell to the floor and Ketcham picked it up and swung it, striking the deputy once in the left arm ear the elbow. Ketcham then retreated into the nearby bathroom and stayed there until another deputy arrived to assist with taking her into custody, the report said.
Ketcham was placed into handcuffs and into the patrol car. While on the way to the Marion County Jail, she said he was aware of her actions that she struck the deputy because he “deserved it” because he was trespassing on her property, according to the report.
Ketcham was being held on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 24.
