Anthony Gerald Otero Jr.

An Ocala man put up a struggle while being arrested more than a month after he allegedly battered a woman and fled the scene.

Anthony Gerald Otero Jr., 39, was charged Thursday with resisting arrest without violence and simple domestic battery in connection with an incident that happened Sept. 14 and was reported on Oct. 20.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Otero got into an argument and she wanted to leave the residence to get away from him. She said as she was leaving, Otero grabbed her by the arm, threw her onto the bed and attacked her, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim could not recall how but by the end of the incident, she had a swollen left eye from the attack. She provided photos that corroborated her accusations. Otero’s whereabouts were unknown at the time the incident was reported, the report said.

On Thursday, another deputy responded to Otero’s residence and found him there. The deputy said there was probable cause for his arrest in connection with the prior altercation. When being told he was being arrested, Otero shut tried to retreat back into the home and shut the front door, saying, “You’re not arresting me,” according to the report.

The deputy chased Otero through the front door and tackled him in the dining room area. After being taken to the ground, Otero complied with the deputy’s orders and was secured in handcuffs, the report said.

Otero was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Friday on $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 6, 2021.
