Ocala man charged with strangling woman over Facebook post

Deangelo Jaquan Vance

A 24-year-old Ocala man is accused of strangling a woman twice on Sunday over a Facebook post he didn’t like.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Deangelo Jaquan Vance became upset over something she wrote on Facebook and started arguing with her inside the home and choked her with both of his hands. She said she couldn’t breathe during the time before Vance eventually released his grasp, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said her children were present inside the home during the altercation. She left her home and went to church with her mother and children afterwards. The victim said when she got home, Vance became again became angry and strangled her once more with both hands. She said she was able to break Vance’s grasp, get away and call law enforcement, the report said.

The deputy observed clear injuries on the lower left side of the victim’s neck and under her right ear from where Vance had placed his hands. Both children told the deputy they saw victim and Vance arguing and the alteration turn physical. They said the victim’s injuries were a result of self-defense, according to the report.

Vance was placed under arrest. Prior to being placed inside the patrol car, he was searched and the deputy found a clear plastic bag containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine. After being read his Miranda warning, Vance admitted the cocaine was his, the report said.

Vance, who was previously charged with marijuana possession in March 2019, was charged with domestic battery by strangulation, possession of cocaine, and violating his probation for the 2019 arrest. He’s being held in the Marion County Jail on $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Nov. 24.
