One more local COVID-19 death as cases continue to increase in Marion County

Another local resident has died of COVID-19 as new cases continued to be reported Monday in Ocala and throughout Marion County.

The latest fatality was a resident of Lake County. No information about the victim was provided Monday by the Florida Department of Health.

Marion County is now reporting 11,359 cases – an increase of 46 from Sunday to Monday – among 4,660 men, 6,665 women, 28 non-residents and six people listed as unknown. A total of 1,124 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 2,252 in correctional facilities. There have been 362 deaths and 1,095 people treated in area hospitals.

Ocala continues to pace Marion County with 8,579 cases – an increase of 34 in a 24-hour period. Others have been identified in Summerfield (470), Belleview (408), Dunnellon (403), Citra (203), Silver Springs (176), Ocklawaha (146), Reddick (87), Weirsdale (80), Anthony (76), Fort McCoy (75), Flemington (33), Salt Springs (21), Orange Lake (12), Sparr (8), McIntosh (8), Candler (7), The Villages (7), Lowell (7), Morriston (5), East Lake (5), Orange Springs (2) and Fairfield (2). A total of 1,425 cases have been reported among inmates (1,318) and staff members (107) at Lowell Correctional Institution and Marion Correctional Institution.

SUMTER COUNTY

  • Cases: 3,087 – increase of 1
  • Men: 1,753
  • Women: 1,304
  • Non-residents: 13
  • People listed as unknown: 17
  • Cases in long-term care facilities: 224
  • Cases in correctional facilities: 803
  • Deaths: 88
  • Hospitalizations: 300
  • Area/cities with most cases: The Villages (828), Coleman (716), Wildwood (478), Bushnell (359, 135 of which are at the Sumter Correctional Institution among 90 inmates and 45 staff members) and Oxford (152). The federal prison in Coleman also is reporting 141 cases among 36 inmates and 105 staff members.

All told Florida is reporting 847,821 COVID-19 cases – an increase of 3,924 from Sunday to Monday. Of those, 836,370 are residents. A total of 52,344 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 25,045 in correctional facilities. Across the state, there have been 17,391 deaths and 50,591 people have been hospitalized.
