Wrong-way driver popped on sixth DUI arrest on U.S. 301 in Marion County

Raul Dominguez

A wrong-way-driving Tavares man with a long history of DUI arrests found himself back behind bars this past weekend.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy stopped a black Jeep on Saturday that was traveling north in the southbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 301. The deputy made contact with the driver, 48-year-old Raul Dominguez, and determined that he was “highly intoxicated,” a sheriff’s office report states.

Dominguez refused to participate in field sobriety exercises or provide a breath sample to determine his blood-alcohol content. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where a computer check revealed that it was his sixth driving under the influence arrest with three prior convictions, the report says.

Dominguez, who also was out on bond for DUI arrests in Lake County and Sumter County from earlier this year, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (fourth or subsequent offense), refusing to submit to a DUI test after license suspended and driving with license suspended or revoked (third or subsequent offense). He was released early Monday morning on $31,000 bond and is due in court Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges, jail records show.
