Ocala Police investigating shooting that left 44-year-old man dead

A 44-year-old man was gunned down early Sunday morning outside an Ocala residence.

Ocala Police officers responded shortly after 1 a.m. after receiving a call about a shooting in the 3000 block of N.W. 16th Place. When they arrived, they found David Isaac Vega, of Ocala, lying near the carport of a residence with an apparent gunshot wound, a report states.

An officer attempted to revive Vega with CPR until an EMS unit arrived to take over treatment. Vega was then pronounced dead at the scene at 1:23 a.m.

The relationship between the residents of the home and Vega is unknown and they are not believed to be involved in the shooting. Major Crimes detectives are continuing to investigate the incident, which is believed to be isolated and not part of a pattern of crime or in relation to any other cases, the report says.
