Dunnellon woman charged with battering man after church

Laura Jean Dugger

A 61-year-old Dunnellon woman is accused of battering a man after she came home from church on Sunday.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded shortly after 6:30 p.m. to a residence on SW 202nd Avenue Road, where the victim said he and Laura Jean Dugger had been arguing the entire day. He said Dugger went to church, and he called his sister while she was gone to vent, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said he was still talking to his sister when Dugger came home, and he openly said, “she’s back.”  He said this made Dugger angry, so she walked up to him and grabbed the phone with enough force to push his head back, the report said.

The deputy observed a scratch mark on the victim’s face that he said happened when Dugger grabbed the phone. Dugger admitted that she snatched the phone from the victim because she was mad. She said she doesn’t know how he received the scratch, but it is possible she scratched him, according to the report.

Dugger was charged with simple domestic battery and taken to the Marion County Jail, where she was still being held Monday on $1,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 6, 2021.
