Suspects at large after shooting at FHP trooper during high-speed pursuit

Area law enforcement officers are searching for suspects who shot at a Florida Highway Patrol trooper during a wild chase through Ocala on Thursday afternoon.

The trooper was notified shortly after 3 p.m. of a shooting that took place in downtown Ocala. The trooper saw the suspect vehicle, a silver Nissan sedan, leaving a parking garage and ordered the driver to exit his vehicle. The driver ignored the trooper and fled at a high rate of speed, a FHP report states.

During the ensuing pursuit, a passenger in the vehicle fired multiple shots at the trooper and his patrol vehicle. The trooper, who wasn’t injured during the incident, eventually lost contact with the Nissan. The vehicle and the suspects remain at large, the report says.

The initial shooting incident, which is believed to have occurred during an armed robbery in Downtown Ocala, is being investigated by the Ocala Police Department.
