Ocala woman charged with battering elderly woman with dementia

Lisa Ann Dean

An Ocala woman is in the Marion County Jail after she allegedly slammed a freezer door on the arm of an elderly woman with dementia.

Lisa Ann Dean, 51, was charged with felony battery on a person 65 years of age or older after the incident, which happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

A witness told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy the victim has dementia and her condition has led to arguments with Dean for the past two weeks. He said he came home from work and the two were arguing in the kitchen while the victim was warming up food, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The witness said Dean became so upset she kicked the freezer door, slamming the victim’s arm in the doorway. The witness said he yelled for Dean to go to her bedroom. He said the victim’s arm was cut and bleeding from the door being closed on it, the report said.

The victim told the deputy she and Dean were arguing about Dean leaving the home when she went into the kitchen to get something to drink. She said Dean came into the kitchen and slammed her arm in the freezer. The deputy observed a red and dark-colored bruise on the victim’s right arm that appeared to be swelling, which was consistent with statements from both the witness and the victim, according to the report.

Dean told the deputy she and the victim had been arguing all day due to the victim calling her names and wanting her to leave the residence. She said she was in the kitchen putting away groceries that the witness brought home when the victim walked in and spit in her face, the report said.

Dean said she became upset and went in the bedroom. She said she returned to the kitchen to get a drink, and the victim returned and was bumping her with her hip to get into the freezer. Dean said she then closed the freezer door not knowing the victim’s arm was there, according to the report.

Both the victim and witness denied Dean’s allegation that the victim spit in her face, the report said.

Dean is being held on $5,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 22.
