Nancy Thrower will lead the Marion County School Board as its chair for the coming year following a reorganization meeting this morning.
Thrower is midway through her elected term on the board. Kelly King also was elected as vice chair at the midway point in her second board term.
Both were unanimously chosen by their peers, who nominated only them for the two positions. Other school board members include Allison Campbell (who took her oath of office before the reorganization meeting), Eric Cummings and Beth McCall.
Thrower is a former teacher of students with special needs, while Kelly is a former elementary school teacher. As chair, Thrower leads twice-monthly school board meetings and year-round work sessions. She also serves on various leadership boards throughout the community and represents District Four, including schools in Ocala.
Kelly also serves various board appointments and will serve as needed in Thrower’s absence. She represents District Five and schools primarily in North and East Marion County.
By unanimous vote, board members also approved the same meeting schedule as in past years – holding board meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays monthly at 5:30 p.m. at 512 S.E. Third Street in Ocala.
