An Ocala woman was arrested for the second time this year after she allegedly walked into a room that she claimed was hers, pointed a handgun at a woman and pulled her to the ground by her hair.
Kerry Ann Hemingway, 26, was charged with burglary with assault or battery, assault with intent to commit a felony, and criminal mischief. She was previously arrested in June on hefty drug charges after a stoplight incident.
The latest incident happened recently at a location that was redacted from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office report. Hemingway, the victim and four eyewitnesses were standing outside when a sheriff’s deputy arrived and one of the witnesses handed the deputy a black M&P .380-caliber handgun, according to the report.
The victim told the deputy she lives in a room at the location and Hemingway came to the room, looked through the window and knocked on the door. The victim said she opened the door and Hemingway walked into the room and said it was her room. The victim said she told Hemingway she was in the wrong room and told her to leave, the report said.
The victim said when she blocked Hemingway from walking further into the room, Hemingway pulled the black handgun from her sweater pocket and pointed it at her. She said she told Hemingway to put the gun down. The victim said Hemingway put the gun on the ground, then grabbed the victim by the hair and pulled her to the ground, causing the victim’s glasses to break and ripping her shirt. The victim said the witnesses separated her and Hemingway while 911 was being called, according to the report.
The deputy observed the victim’s glasses were bent where the right arm connects to the frame, and her shirt was ripped on the left shoulder. The victim valued her glasses at $100 and her shirt at $20, the report said.
All four eyewitnesses provided similar accounts. A male and female said they pulled Hemingway off the victim, while a male eyewitness said he picked up the gun, removed the magazine and cleared the chamber. The victim and all four witnesses said Hemingway whistled several times as if she was calling for another person. They said they don’t know Hemingway but saw her walking around the location earlier in the day, according to the report.
Asked by the deputy what happened, Hemingway said she was trying to go home. Asked where home was, Hemingway just stared at the deputy and said she didn’t want to talk, the report said.
Hemingway was being held in the Marion County Jail on no bond. She’ll appear in Marion County Court on Dec. 22.
