Ocala man accused of strangling woman because he didn’t like dinner

Gary Lamar McNealy

A 62-year-old Ocala man was arrested after he allegedly strangled a woman during an argument over the dinner she made.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded Tuesday night to a residence on Oak Loop, where the victim said she was standing by the pantry when Gary Lamar McNealy grabbed her by the throat with his right hand, impeding her airway and preventing her from breathing, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said McNealy started slapping her with his left and in both of her eyes. She said he regularly hits her. The deputy was unable to see any signs of injury on the victim’s neck, but her eyes were puffy, glossy and had a reddish tint in the white areas, the report said.

McNealy said he and the victim were arguing over the food that was made and he walked away. He said he did not hit or otherwise touch the victim. McNealy said he is left-handed, according to the report.

McNealy was charged with domestic battery by strangulation and taken to the Marion County Jail. He was released Wednesday on $2,500 bond and is due in court Dec. 29 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
