COVID-19 forces cancellation of popular Symphony Under the Lights event

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra has made the difficult decision to cancel Symphony Under the Lights because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event had been scheduled for Friday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in Tuscawilla Park and was being presented by Jenkins Auto Group. The connected open rehearsal for the event also has been cancelled.

“This was a very difficult decision, but we believe it is the best option to ensure the safety of our musicians and audience members,” said Pamela Calero Wardell, executive director. “A majority of our musicians would be traveling from out of town to perform at the event and this played heavily on our decision. We are looking forward to performances in the new year.”

In lieu of Symphony Under the Lights, the orchestra will be sharing musical cheer throughout the community in other ways throughout December, beginning with our #givingtuesday Give Back performances featuring the Brass Quintet at downtown locations including:

  • 10-10:30 a.m. – Hilton Garden Inn Outdoor Terrace;
  • 11-11:30 a.m. –  Ocala Electric Utility Customer Service Office; and
  • Noon-12:30 p.m. – Dignity Roasters.
