Holiday lights fill Downtown Ocala Square despite ‘Light Up’ cancellation

Despite the cancellation of this year’s Light Up Ocala, the Downtown Ocala Square is filled with holiday lights for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The lights, which were strung up by Ocala Parks and Recreation staff before Thanksgiving, bring a familiar sight to the square despite a slate of event cancellations that have piled up in recent weeks.

The Ocala Christmas Parade was canceled by event organizers in late November.

Ocala’s neighbors to the south in Leesburg and The Villages have gone forward with similar events, including the popular Christmas tree lightings at all three squares in The Villages. The city of Leesburg went forward with both the Leesburg Christmas Parade and the Leesburg Christmas Stroll, which will take place this weekend.
