Ocala man charged with trying to run down man in Cadillac

Michael Dean McHenry

An Ocala man remains in the Marion County Jail nearly a week after he allegedly tried to run over a man with his Cadillac and gave a false name to the deputy who arrested him.

Michael Dean McHenry, 39, of 651 NE 59th St., was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, cyberstalking, driving with a suspended license, and giving a false name to law enforcement. His bond was also revoked from a DUI arrest in September.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy responded Dec. 13 to a residence on N. Magnolia Avenue in Citra, where the victim said McHenry tried to hit him with is black four-door Cadillac while he was working in his yard. He said McHenry drove onto his yard and drove towards him at a high speed before striking a tree with the front end of his car, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The deputy observed the area on the tree that was damaged from where it was hit by the vehicle. Asked if he had a well-founded fear for his life, the victim said he did, the report said.

The victim also said McHenry had been making death threats to him by leaving voicemail messages on his phone between Nov. 20 and Dec. 10. The deputy listened to the voicemails and heard McHenry say he wanted to murder the victim, according to the report.

The deputy was unable to find McHenry at that time, but McHenry returned to the victim’s residence at around 10 p.m. The victim said McHenry was parked outside with loud music playing. He said McHenry left when he called 911, the report said.

Another deputy spotted McHenry at the Circle K store at 13002 NE Jacksonville Road. She approached him inside the store and asked if his name was Michael McHenry. He said it wasn’t and his name was Robert. The deputy asked McHenry for his ID and he said he didn’t have it, according to the report.

The deputy told McHenry she had an ID reader in her patrol car and that he matched the description of a person the sheriff’s office was looking for. While on the way to the deputy’s patrol car, McHenry gave his real name, the report said.

The deputy inspected the front end of McHenry’s Cadillac and found tree bark stuck in the bumper. McHenry was arrested and taken to jail without incident. After being read his Mirada warning at the jail, McHenry said he didn’t want to talk about the incident, according to the report.

McHenry is being held on $27,000 bond and will appear in Marion County Court on Jan. 19, 2021.
