Ocala man jailed after moving woman who blocked door

Zane Thomas Jempson

A 23-year-old Ocala man was charged with simple domestic battery after he allegedly grabbed a woman and pulled her out of the way when she blocked a door to keep him from leaving.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that she and Zane Thomas Jempson were arguing early Monday when he tried to leave the residence and she tried to stop him by putting herself between him and the door. She said when she did this, instead of Jempson going out another exit, he grabbed her by the right arm and pulled her out of the way, according to the sheriff’s office report.

Jempson told the deputy there was a verbal argument that became physical. He said the victim got into his face, so he pushed her and then tried to call 911. Jempson said the victim didn’t want him calling 911, so they got into a wrestling match over the phone that led to him smacking the victim in the face. He said he did grab the victim by the right arm to move her out of the way so he could leave, the report said.

The deputy observed a minor red mark on the victim’s right arm where she said she was grabbed. There were no injuries corroborating that she was smacked in the face. The victim said she was never smacked in the face. The deputy observed the living room was in disarray where the victim and Jempson said the argument happened, according to the report.

Jempson was taken to the Marion County Jail, where he was released Wednesday on $100 bond. He will appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 19.
