Wheelchair-bound Ocala man charged with battering two during rampage

Conrad Andrew Degon

A 66-year-old Ocala man in a wheelchair is accused of battering two people and knocking over a Christmas tree during a fit over not being visited in the hospital.

The female victim, who is older than 65, told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy that Conrad Andrew Degon was dropped off at home from the hospital by his sister at around 5 p.m. Sunday. She said Degon became angry at her for not visiting him in the hospital and not going to pick him up, according to the sheriff’s office report.

The victim said Degon started to tear down the Christmas tree and knocked it over. She said she was sitting on the couch when he pinned her between the couch and the wall and hit her three times. The victim said she ran outside to speak to Degon’s sister, the report said.

The victim said when she got outside, her son blocked the doorway to keep Degon from getting to her. She said she saw Degon hit her son twice in his genital region, according to the report.

The male victim confirmed that Degon knocked over the Christmas tree, pinned his mother against the wall and struck her three times. He said when his mother got outside, he blocked the back door so Degon wouldn’t be able to hurt her again. The male victim said he had his foot on Degon’s wheelchair when Degon hit him twice in the genital region.  He said he went behind Degon and started to pull his wheelchair back into the living room when Deon struck him in the genital region again. He said Degon picked up a table and flipped it over, the report said.

The deputy did not observe any marks or injuries on either victim. The deputy did notice the Christmas tree had been knocked over and a table was flipped over in the living room, according to the report.

Degon told the deputy he had just come home from the hospital when one of the victims hit him three times in the head. He had no marks or injuries. Both victims denied putting their hands on Degon. The male victim said he only pulled Degon’s wheelchair when he took him back to the living room, the report said.

Degon was simple battery and battery on a person 65 years of age or older and taken to the Marion County Jail. He was being held on $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Marion County Court on Feb. 2.
