Deborah Lynn Gilkes

Deborah Lynn Gilkes, 68, passed away on January 6, 2021 surrounded by her family, in Ocala, Florida. She was born on November 3, 1952, in New York to Russell and Edna Knettel.

Debbie worked in flooring for the past 30 years including the past 16 years at Griffis Tile and Flooring. She volunteered her time for girl scouts, boy scouts, soccer teams and softball teams; and was the definition of a mother for whoever needed her to be one at that time.

Debbie met the love of her life, her latte husband John, on her 21st birthday and married him within the year. After giving birth to their third child, they relocated to Ocala and raised their family in the home that they remained in until their passing.

She is preceded by her husband, John Gilkes; her parents, Russell and Edna Knettel; and her grandson Jesse Smith.

She is survived by her children, Melissa Ann Gilkes-Smith, Justin David Gilkes, and Sarah Jean Gilkes; siblings, Claudia Spicer, Ronnie Knettel, and Jeannie as well as 6 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Due to unprecedented times her service will be scheduled for a later date so all those who were closely held in his heart can be together to celebrate her life in a joint ceremony with her late husband.
