Gun-toting Orange Springs man jailed after fleeing from sheriff’s deputy

Allen Barry Buford

An Orange Springs man was arrested recently after allegedly running from a Marion County sheriff’s deputy following a traffic stop.

Sheriff’s Cpl. Eli Serrano stopped a 1988 blue Ford Bronco on Jan. 8 after reporting that the driver, later identified as 30-year-old Allen Barry Buford, ran a stop sign. Buford handed Serrano an identification card and claimed he had lost his driver’s license, a sheriff’s office report states.

As Serrano went back to his patrol vehicle to check the validity of Buford’s license, he allegedly fled from the traffic stop. After a brief pursuit, Buford pulled over, exited his vehicle, grabbed a gun and held it by his side, the report says.

Serrano reported that Buford continuously asked him to kill him while stating that his life was over. Serrano was eventually able to convince Buford to put the gun down, but he then turned and walked away, forcing the deputy to deploy his Taser, according to the report.

Buford, who was out on bond for two counts of capital sex battery, lewd or lascivious battery, lewd or lascivious molestation and violating his probation, was taken into custody and transported to the Marion County Jail.

Buford was charged with driving while license suspended (habitual offender), fleeing and eluding an officer with lights and siren active, use/display of a firearm during a felony and a carrying a concealed weapon at specific locations. He was released shortly before midnight on Jan. 8 on $6,000 bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.
