An Ocala man is behind bars in the Marion County Jail after being stopped by a sheriff’s deputy for a faulty equipment violation.
The deputy stopped 57-year-old William Addis Heaps’ green Ford Ranger, which was pulling a trailer, in the 5400 block of W. Hwy. 40 on Thursday night. The deputy spoke with Heaps and observed signs of impairment, so he conducted an investigation for driving under the influence, a sheriff’s office report states.
At the conclusion of his investigation, the deputy placed Heaps under arrest. He also was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the report says.
Heaps was transported to the Marion County Jail and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (third violation in more than 10 years), possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams and possession and/or use of drug equipment. He was being held on $25,000 bond and is due in court Feb. 16 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges, jail records show.
