Helen K. Roberts

Helen K. Roberts

Helen K. Roberts, age 81, of Ocala, Florida, and formerly Shelby Township, Michigan, passed away of COVID-19 complications on Sunday, January 10, 2021. She was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on June 17, 1939, the daughter of Glenn William Herzog and Melba May Herzog née Coomer. She graduated from Great Lakes Academy (formerly known as Cedar Lake Academy) in 1957. Upon graduating, she earned a Bachelors Degree in Education from Andrews University, in 1961.

She moved to Mt. Clemens to teach in the Mt Clemens School District, where she met the love of her life, John (Dave) D. Roberts. They were married on April 21, 1962 and Helen and Dave were happily married for 58 years.

While juggling the demands of a teaching career and raising three boys, she earned a Masters Degree and Educational Specialist Degree from Wayne State University.

Helen was also a devout Seventh-Day Adventist and member of the Troy Seventh-Day Adventist Church—her faith was very important to her. She thoroughly enjoyed boating with her husband and 3 boys and dearly loved visiting her sisters. She also enjoyed traveling and shopping. Helen and Dave later moved to Ocala, Florida, to enjoy the warm weather and make many new friends.

Helen and Dave have three sons: John (Kathleen) Roberts of St. Johns, Michigan; Michael Roberts and his partner Paul Gwilt of Denver, Colorado; Thomas (Sara) Roberts of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and grandchildren James, William, Rebecca, and David Roberts. Helen is survived by her children, and grandchildren, also her sisters Marilyn May Delo née Herzog of Blanchard, Michigan and Glenna Gay Dagher née Herzog of Winter Garden, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband — 34 days previously, and also from COVID-19 — and by her parents.

It is the family’s plan to have a Celebration of Life jointly for her and her husband this summer after the COVID-19 pandemic is in a more controlled state.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the “Center for Reading, Learning and Assessment” at Andrews University (www.andrews.edu/giving). Share a memory at www.ahpeters.com.
