A Belleview woman admitted she lost control and started battering a man during an argument in a moving vehicle.
Catherine Elizabeth Rembish, 35, was charged Thursday with simple domestic battery in connection with the incident, which happened a week earlier at the intersection of SE Highway 42 and South U.S. Highway 301, in the jurisdiction of the Wildwood Police Department.
Wildwood Police referred the report to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and provided the address where Rembish and the victim could be found. A deputy responded to the location and spoke with the victim, who said he remembered the incident, which happened Jan. 8.
The victim said he and Rembish were arguing when she became irate and started striking and scratching him on his face. He said he asked her to stop but she continued. The victim said he finally couldn’t take her hitting him anymore, so he balled his fist and struck her in the face. He said he only struck her out of self defense when she was scratching and hitting him on both sides of his face, according to the sheriff’s office report.
Rembish said she and the victim turned south onto U.S. Highway 301 from SE Highway 42 when they got into an argument. She said she became irate, lost control and started striking the victim in the face numerous times. Rembish said the victim tried to stop her from striking him in the face, but she was able to get away and started hitting him again. She said the victim struck her in the face to get her to start, the report said.
The deputy observed mild redness on the victim’s left cheek and neck area, and some bruising and discoloration around Rembish’s right eye.
Rembish, who was determined to be the aggressor, was taken to the Marion County Jail. She will appear in Marion County Court on March 3.
