Marion County residents can view potential textbooks and submit feedback

Public input is being sought as Marion County Public Schools adopt new textbooks for English Language Arts courses at all grade levels.

Members of the public can review potential textbooks and materials being considered by the district adoption review committees for the next school year during a meeting on Monday, Jan. 25. The 6-8 p.m. session will take place in Building 2 of the Robert “Mack” Dunwoody Educational Complex, which is located on the Marion Technical Institute campus at 1614 E. Ft. King St. in Ocala.

The process already involves parents, teachers and community members reviewing instructional materials. Course-specific committees can involve up to 15 voting members and one non-voting chair, including the content area program specialist, up to eight teachers, two parents and five community members appointed by the Marion County School Board.

Following the public viewing, review committee members will consider public input and vote to recommend titles to the superintendent, who then advances recommendations to the Marion County School Board.
