COVID-19 has claimed two more local residents as deaths from the fast-spreading virus continued to pile up across the state.
The local fatalities were residents of Marion County. They are among the 1,137 tri-county deaths, the 26,249 in Florida and the 427,513 across the country.
All told, Florida is reporting 1,676,171 cases – an increase of 8,408 from Tuesday to Wednesday. Of those, 1,645,507 are residents. A total of 74,992 cases have been reported in long-term care centers and 28,909 in correctional facilities. Across the state, 71,155 people have been hospitalized.
Locally, Marion County is reporting 23,831 cases – an increase of 145 in a 24-hour period. There have been 572 deaths and 1,530 people have been hospitalized.
Ocala continues to pace Marion County with 17,683 cases – an overnight increase of 95. Others have been identified in Summerfield (1,492), Dunnellon (1,042), Belleview (1,018), Silver Springs (429), Citra (407), Ocklawaha (358), Reddick (258), Fort McCoy (215), Anthony (212), Weirsdale (181), The Villages (176), Salt Springs (39), Flemington (34), McIntosh (24), Sparr (20), Orange Lake (18), Candler (17), Lowell (17), East Lake (7), Orange Springs (7), Morriston (6) and Fairfield (6).

SUMTER COUNTY
- Cases: 6,867 – increase of 49
- Deaths: 177
- Hospitalizations: 436
