An 18-year-old Ocala man was jailed Thursday night in connection with a shooting that took place last year near an Ocala elementary school – while classes were in session.
An Ocala Police detective took Vonkeith Reshod Barnes into custody and booked him into the Marion County Jail on charges of possession of a firearm by a delinquent felon, discharging a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and disorderly conduct/affray. He was being held on $750,000 bond on the shooting and firearms charges and no bond on the disorderly conduct charge and is due in court March 23 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
The shooting took place on Sept. 28 near Dr. N.H. Jones Elementary School, located at 1900 S.W. 5th St. in Ocala. Barnes was actively being sought in the case and was arrested when officers located him at Ocala Place Apartments, an Ocala Police report states.
