An Ocala man found himself behind bars after a Valentine’s Day visit to his former lady friend resulted in his arrest.
Steven Thomas Walker, 35, told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that he had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s trailer to give her a Valentine’s Day present and to get a phone back from her. He said he and the victim had lived together previously but moved out when their relationship ended, a sheriff’s office report states.
Walker claimed that when he came to the victim’s residence, the door was wide open. He said he went inside to speak with her and a verbal altercation escalated, with her shoving and hitting him, the report says.
The victim said she was unsure how Walker entered the residence and she knows the door was locked. The victim said when Walker entered without her consent, they argued about a cell phone. She said she shoved Walker to try to get him to leave her residence and he pushed her into a glass mirror, the report says, noting that deputies saw a shattered mirror and cuts on the victim’s ankle and foot area.
A maintenance worker who was at the residence told deputies that he had seen the front door working properly about two weeks ago. The worker said the door appeared as if someone had attempted to force his or her way in.
After being read his rights, Walker admitted that he had pushed the victim after she tried to shove him out of the residence. He denied pushing her into the mirror and claimed she had broken it herself, according to the report.
Walker was arrested and charged with burglary with assault or battery. He was released the following day on $2,000 bond and is due in court March 16 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charge, jail records show.
