Victim claims man friend raised fist at her after drinking binge

John Walter Carter

A Belleview man was arrested recently after his lady friend said he had been drinking for two straight days and arguing with his neighbors.

When Marion County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Belleview home, the victim said 62-year-old John Walter Carter had come onto their porch after the spat with the neighbors and fallen asleep. She said he woke up about an hour later while she was setting up an air mattress and became upset with her and raised his fist as if he was going to strike her, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim said Carter, who she said frequently raises his fist at her to scare her, then went into the living room and started turning over furniture in anger. Deputies note that some furniture appeared to be “slightly out of place and turned right side up.” They also observed pillows and a blanket on the floor in front of the couch, broken glass and broken knick-knacks along the floor.

After being read his rights, Carter admitted to drinking alcohol but denied acting like or almost striking the victim with his fist. He was placed under arrest and initially transported to The Centers befor being taken to the Marion County Jail.

Carter was charged with domestic simple assault/threat to do violence and released six days later on $500 bond.
