Pedestrian struck and killed on Interstate 75 in Marion County

A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday night on Interstate 75 in Marion County in a multi-vehicle accident that left two other people critically injured.

The 51-year-old Cross City man was walking southbound on I-75 in the left lane in the dark at 7:40 p.m. when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Kissimmee man, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He did not see the pedestrian in the roadway. His vehicle became disabled in the left lane as a result of the collision and it was struck by a sedan driven by a 32-year-old Ocala woman. Her car was struck by a tractor trailer truck driven by a 54-year-old Fort Lauderdale man.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.

The 32-year-old Ocala woman driving the car and a woman riding as a passenger in the SUV were critically injured. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer truck escaped injury.
