Bird lover claims lady friend went berserk and tried to run him over

Jean Marie Heit

Multiple Marion County sheriff’s deputies responded to a nasty altercation recently after a man claimed his lady friend tried to take his bird out of its cage and then run him over.

When deputies arrived at the residence, the victim said 29-year-old Jean Marie Heit had broken the glass to the front door of his house, gotten in her vehicle and started driving “erratically” in the front yard. He claimed Heit also drove the vehicle toward him in an attempt to run him over, stopping just in front of the steps to the house, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that the incident was captured on security cameras and deputies observed the footage.

The victim said he went into the house and Heit entered through the back door. He said a verbal altercation broke out and before he could defend himself, Heit punched him in the chest and face. He added that while attempting to defend himself, his T-shirt was ripped and he suffered scratches to his arm, the report says.

Heit told deputies that she only wanted to “play” with the bird but the victim claimed she threatened to kill it. Heit also admitted to entering her vehicle but denied trying to run over the victim.

Deputies determined that Heit was the primary aggressor during the incident so she was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail. She was charged with aggravated assault without intent to kill and battery and was being held on $3,000 bond. She’s scheduled to appear in a Marion County courtroom to answer to the charges on March 30 at 9 a.m.
