Man jailed for making false report after claiming marijuana dealer robbed him

Kelly Dion Beavers

A Georgia man was jailed recently after being accused of making a false police report.

Kelly Dion Beavers, 45, of Marietta, Ga., told Ocala Police officers that he and his girlfriend pulled into the middle of a road near Pine Avenue to check on their front tire. He claimed that while checking the tire, he was approached by a woman asking him for money, a police report states.

Beavers said he told the woman he didn’t have any money and she pulled out a 9mm handgun and “asked if he had money now.” He said he gave her $40 and she ran north, the report says.

Beavers told officers he didn’t know the woman, but after they spoke with him a little longer, he claimed he saw her a few days earlier at Wayne’s Kitchen when she asked him for a ride. He said he didn’t give her a ride but did give her $7, the report says.

During the conversation with Beavers, an officer overheard on his police radio that Beavers had possibly been at the woman’s hotel with her a few days earlier. The officer asked Beavers to go the police station and look at a photo lineup, which he agreed to do.

A detective told officers there was a video of Beavers meeting with the woman at her hotel. Officers then determined that the robbery didn’t take place, the report says.

Beavers admitted that he had lied about the crime and wasn’t robbed. But he did claim the woman had robbed him a few days earlier. He said he buys marijuana from the woman and when asked why he would go back to someone who had robbed him, he said “he didn’t know anyone else to buy marijuana from,” according to the report.

Beavers was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with making false reports to law enforcement. He’s scheduled to be released on Monday, March 15 at 9 a.m., jail records  show.
