18-year-old Fort McCoy man jailed after victim claims he smacked him with hammer

Houston Michael Horton

A scooter-riding Fort McCoy teenager was jailed recently after a man claimed he smacked him in the head with a hammer while he was hooking his boat trailer to his truck.

The victim said 18-year-old Houston Michael Horton approached him and yelled, “Why did you go to my mom’s house while I was at work?” He said Horton them smacked him with the hammer of the left side of his head, which had a small cut on the left temple and was starting to swell, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report states.

The victim said he didn’t know why Horton hit him. But he told deputies that he believed Horton has “anger issues,” the report says.

After a witness confirmed Horton’s account of the attack, deputies responded to his residence at 14475 N.E. 203rd Pl. in Fort McCoy. After being read his rights, Horton claimed he was home the entire time and didn’t go to the victim’s house and hit him, according to the report.

Horton was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic aggravated battery (using a deadly weapon). He was being held on $2,500 bond and is due in court April 27 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
