John R. Foutty

John R. Foutty was born September, 1930 in Bedford, IN to Floyd R. Foutty and Dorothy Martha Foutty. He graduated from Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, IN. He received his Master’s degree in English literature from Butler University, wrote poems and short stories and was a three year letterman in football and track.

John served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was employed as the Branch Claims Manager for CNA Insurance in Des Moines, IA where he was president of the Claim Association and Intercompany Arbitration Committee and had articles published in the Insurance Law Journal. He retired from the company in Kansas City, MO as a claims consultant.

After retirement, he and his wife, JoAnn, moved to the Oak Run Country Club in Ocala, FL. Proficient in many sports, he enjoyed golf where he shot his age and had two holes in one at Oak Run. A member of many clubs, he particularly enjoyed ballroom and country western dancing, as well as playing bridge as a member of the American Contract Bridge League. He loved animals, particularly his cat and dog pets.

John was predeceased by his parents, his wife, JoAnn Foutty and his grandson, Sam Holmes. He is survived by his brothers, Alan Foutty, David Foutty (Ginny), sister, Cathy Johnson (Paul), stepson, Tim Holmes (Mary Jane), and granddaughter, Mary Scott Holmes, and numerous nephews and nieces and their children.

Private graveside services will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN where he will be buried in the family plot.

The family would like to express its deep gratitude to the staff at The Bridge whose loving care enhanced his quality of life while he was in residence there. The family also would like to express gratitude to Estelle’s House for care given to John. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Humane Society of Marion County in memory of John.
