A 21-year-old man was jailed recently after his breastfeeding lady friend said he became angry with her because of the way she looked at him.

The victim told a Marion County sheriff’s deputy by phone that Devin Lavar Washington, of Umatilla, slapped her in the center of her face and started cursing at her. She claimed he also pushed her to the end of the bed and placed her in a choke hold until she almost lost consciousness.

The victim said Washington eventually let go but then placed both of his hands on her head and began shaking. She said she didn’t recall much that happened after that because she almost lost consciousness, but she did remember going into the corner of the room until Washington fell asleep and then getting back in bed with him, a sheriff’s office report states.

A sheriff’s deputy made contact with the victim in person and noted that she had an abrasion on the right corner of her mouth. She also had redness in her eyes but she told the deputy it was from staying up late and crying.

Deputies then spoke with Washington and after being read his rights, he said they had been going through “hard times” because he was “kicked out” of past residences. He denied that anything physical happened and was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail. He was charged with battery by strangulation, released on $5,000 bond and is due in court April 27 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
