An Ocala man was arrested recently after he was found unconscious in the parking lot of two Ocala businesses.
A caller reported that when people approached the dark blue Toyota Corolla in the parking lot of an Ocala Arby’s restaurant and knocked on the glass, the man, later identified as 35-year-old Robert Lee Hicks, drove away and pulled into the parking lot of the nearby Pilot Travel Center on Hwy. 326.
A Marion County sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle parked at a gas pump at the Pilot Travel Center and found Hicks unconscious in the driver’s seat. He opened the door and Hicks woke up and “appeared to be dazed and confused,” a sheriff’s office report states.
The deputy identified himself and instructed Hicks to turn off the vehicle and take the keys out of the ignition. Hicks then began to touch and grab many things and the deputy reported that he was slurring his words and had difficulty maintaining his balance.
A background check revealed that Hicks’ driver’s license had been suspended for failure to pay child support. He said he didn’t want to speak with deputies but agreed to participate in field sobriety exercises, which he struggled to complete. The deputy then located a small bag containing a green leafy substance in the vehicle that field-tested positive for THC content, the report says.
Hicks was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with possession of marijuana not more than 20 grams and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license. He was released on $1,500 bond and his next court date hasn’t yet been set, jail records show.
