A Dunnellon man was jailed recently after a woman claimed he strangled her after drinking beer.

The victim told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that 34-year-old Bronson Thomas Steinbrook becomes aggressive when he drinks beer and she attempted to calm him down. She claimed Steinbrook grabbed her by her throat and choked her four times, a sheriff’s office report states.

The victim told deputies, “I don’t fight him back because he will (expletive deleted) kill me.” She also said she had scratched Steinbrook in order to get him to stop choking her, a sheriff’s office report states, adding that deputies observed redness and bruising on the victim’s neck.

After being read his rights, Steinbrook said he and the victim were drinking IPA beers and she became upset about family matters and started taking it out on him. He claimed the victim struck him in the head with her palm so he grabbed her by the throat to get her to stop hitting him. He said he eventually let go of her throat because, “I knew what I was doing wasn’t right,” according to the report, which also notes that Steinbrook had scratches on his right torso, the left side of his neck and the upper middle portion of his back.

Steinbrook was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with domestic battery by strangulation. He was released on $2,000 bond and is due in court May 4 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
