An Ocala man found himself behind bars recently after his lady friend said he came to her place of employment while intoxicated and started an argument with her.

The victim said she confronted 56-year-old David Eugene Baker at their home later in the evening and the altercation turned physical. She said Baker started to choke her and threatened to kill her. She said she lost the ability to breathe freely and went to a neighbor’s residence to call 911, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office report states.

Paramedics from Marion County Fire Rescue arrived a short time later and observed redness and a minor breaking of the skin on the victim’s neck. She then requested to be transported to an Ocala hospital.

Deputies attempted to make contact with Baker but he already had fled from the residence. He eventually was arrested and charged with committing domestic battery by strangulation. He was released on $1,000 bond and is due in court May 4 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
