A 41-year-old Ocala man found himself behind bars recently after he was stopped by Marion County sheriff’s deputies for having an illegal tint on his windows and only one operable brake light.
Sheriff’s deputies stopped the black pickup truck in the 8500 block of S.W. 70th Avenue and spoke with the driver, 41-year-old Leslie Matthew White. A deputy conducted a computer check and discovered that White’s driver’s license was suspended on April 12 for failing to pay a traffic citation in Volusia County.
White said he didn’t know his license was suspended. When asked if he had anything illegal in the victim, he replied, “Yes,” and said he had methamphetamine inside the vehicle’s middle console, the report says.
After White was asked to exit the vehicle and detained, deputies located a transparent baggie with a crystallized substance inside it that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and two pieces of aluminum foil inside the middle console containing a brown powdery substance that tested positive for heroin. He was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail.
White was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and possession and/or use of drug equipment. He was released on $6,000 bond and is due in court May 25 at 9 a.m. to answer to the charges, jail records show.
