A registered sex offender found himself behind bars recently after being accused of grabbing a juvenile female and kissing her while they were in line at a Citra convenience store.
The victim told Marion County sheriff’s deputies that she was part of a group, along with 36-year-old Timmy Lee Harris, that recently went to the Dollar General store at 4431 N.W. 27th Ave. in Citra. She said they were in the ice cream aisle when she asked Harris to grab some ice cream for her that was on a top shelf. She said he got her the ice cream and then grabbed her by the waist and kissed her on the forehead and her hand. The victim said the “physical actions” weren’t welcomed and the person who called sheriff’s deputies for help said the incident wasn’t the first occurrence that had been brought to her attention. The identity of the woman who reported the incident was redacted from the report.
Deputies made contact with Harris at his residence in the 15600 block of N.W. 27th Avenue in Citra and he told them “nothing sexual” had happened between them. He said all he did was grab her around the rib cage area and kiss her on her forehead in a “loving manner.” He told deputies “he loves the victim like a daughter and never had any foul intentions when doing it,” the report says.
Harris was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where he was charged with simple battery. Because he is a registered sex offender, he initially was held without bond. But he was later released on $500 bond and is due in court May 14 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
