A Dunnellon woman was jailed recently after a Marion County sheriff’s deputy spotted her traveling in a vehicle without her seat belt on.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the 2006 silver Ford Explorer, which had an aftermarket license plate frame and shield that obstructed the view of the tag. The deputy made contact with the driver, a rear-seat passenger and 33-year-old Megan Marie Freeman, the front-seat passenger. While the deputy conducted a records check of the occupants and the vehicle, an Ocala K-9 officer’s dog performed a free-air sniff and he alerted, indicating the likely presence of narcotics, a sheriff’s office report states.

An Ocala Police officer searched Freeman and she removed a clear plastic baggie from her back right pocket and stuffed it into her bra. After she was placed in handcuffs, the officer retrieved the baggie from her bra and discovered that it contained a tan powdery substance that field-tested positive for heroin, the report says.

Freeman said the drugs belonged to her boyfriend and claimed she found them in his dresser drawer at home. She said she took the drug because she was going to confront him, the report says.

Freeman was placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail, where she was charged with possession of heroin. She was released on $2,000 bond and is due in court June 1 at 9 a.m., jail records show.
